There are over 2,000 education programs in the Netherlands English offered by 55 universities. The two types of higher education institutions in the Netherlands are: universities of applied sciences, and research universities. A university of applied sciences normally offers courses to prepare students for a specific vocation and focuses on practical training and experience, whereas a research university offers more general courses and focuses more on theoretical education. Both are highly recognized internationally and offered at world renowned institutions in the country. The country is also home to

world-renowned universities such as the University of Amsterdam and the University of Leiden. Dutch research universities produce a high proportion of leading scientists. The tuition fees in Holland are about the same compared to other countries in Europe. If you are a student from the European Union, you should expect to pay around 2,000 euros per year for your studies.
Most Dutch universities charge international students a tuition fee that varies by school and program. These fees tend to be higher for Bachelors programmes and Masters programmes. For example, in the Bachelor’s programme at the University of Amsterdam (UAm), the tuition fee is currently 15,220 euros per year for non-European students.

The earliest application deadline in the Netherlands is on JANUARY 15 for Numerus Fixus programs. Some universities have a policy known as the Numerus Fixus which strictly limits the number of admission to certain programs. It is meant to provide students and professions with lower entry possibilities and a similar level of prestige as more demanding programs. These include medicine, psychology, artificial intelligence, international business administration, international relations and physiotherapy. Universities can set their own rule regarding this, so it is possible that different universities that offer the same program will have different deadlines and criteria.
